Brunswick County has a large number of NBPTS certified teachers. Teachers who are working toward this certification have a support system of NBPTS colleagues to assist them in the process. The state salary schedule for NBPTS certified teachers is 12% higher than the normal salary schedule. In addition, BCS teachers that successfully complete the National Board certification process receive a one-time bonus of $1000; however, no payment is to be made to employees transferring to BCS and already holding the certification. For more information on National Board Certification, please visit the national and state NBPTS sites.
Teachers can receive $250 per semester for each first- or second-year ILT (Initially-Licensed Teacher) they mentor, up to a maximum of $500 ($1000 per year).
