Greetings from the Brunswick County Board of Education!

We have tremendous pride in our schools and are so thankful for the dedicated staff members who work tirelessly to make our system one of the most progressive in North Carolina!  We have brilliant students who come to school eager to learn.  Our system’s purpose is to produce college and career ready high school graduates. This journey begins when children enter the doors in kindergarten.  This clear focus is being communicated throughout the system.  We are very proud that our graduation rates are at all time highs and have been steadily climbing for five years.

Our schools have embraced implementation of the Common Cores State Standards in 2012-13.  This new curriculum emphasizes the need for a total recalibration throughout the country of what our teachers are teaching, when they are teaching it, and how schools and systems will assess learning. There is more emphasis in our classrooms on assessing for learning to individualize instruction based on student need.  Learning is being accelerated to meet the demands of the word in which we live.  We invite you to visit our schools where you will see students highly engaged and responsible for their own learning, teachers facilitating and coaching, and collaboration throughout the school through professional learning communities.

As Board of Education members we work collaboratively to represent the interests of our students and our communities as we establish policies and work with administration to ensure our system is effective and efficient.  We know our schools and our system are stronger when parents and community members are involved.  We welcome your voices and participation.

We look forward to working together to make Brunswick County Schools the best in the country.

Sincerely,
