![]() Parent Resource Center Now Open! SBMS has recently opened a parent resource center for parents to check out materials on parenting issues. We have magazines and brochures that assist parents in helping their children be more successful in school. Some of the topics covered in the resources are: bullying, raising drug-free children, how to get involved in your child's education, how to help with homework and many more topics. All the materials are free. Please feel free to stop by the media center any day during school hours to see what is offered. |
EOG Information: Dear Parents and/or Guardians: This letter is to inform you that with the implementation of the Common Core Standards (CCSS) and the North Carolina Essential Standards (ES), we will be utilizing new End-Of-Grade (EOG) tests aligned to the Standards. The EOG and Common Exam tests will be administered May 29 – June 4, 2013. When new assessments are administered for the first time, student scores are delayed while the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) processes the test data. As a result, students will not receive their test scores at the completion of the test administration this spring. Instead the scores for these assessments will be delayed until October 2013. Once the State Board of Education has approved the scores (achievement levels) in October 2013, schools will provide parents with each student’s Individual Student Report. Students in grades 6-8 will take End of Grade tests in Reading and Math on May 29 and 30 (paper/pencil). Eighth grade students will take an EOG in Science on May 31 or June 3 (online). Eighth grade students enrolled in Algebra 1 will take the EOC on June 4 (online). In addition to the EOG tests, there will be common exams or Measurements of Student Learning (MSLs) given to all sixth and seventh grade science students on May 31 (paper/pencil). Students in sixth, seventh, and eighth grade will take a common exam or MSL in social studies on June 4 (paper/pencil). Students who are absent on test days are required to make up missed tests. No retests will be administered this year. Testing will begin at 8:00 AM each morning. It is extremely important that your child be present each day and on time for school. The following are some suggestions to help your child/children prepare for the tests: 1. Make every effort to be present each day. 2. Get plenty of rest. 3. Eat a good, healthy breakfast. 4. Maintain regular medicinal routines. 5. Arrive on time to school.
